Air vs ocean workflow differences
·0 min read
Air and ocean shipments follow different workflows and use different document types. RegoIQ adapts its processing based on the transport mode, which is typically detected automatically from the source documents.
Key differences
| Aspect | Ocean | Air |
|---|---|---|
| Primary document | Bill of Lading (B/L) | Air Waybill (AWB) |
| Container data | Yes — numbers, sizes, weights, seals | Not applicable |
| Piece/weight detail | Per container | Per shipment or per piece |
| Charge structure | Ocean freight, THC, BAF, etc. | Air freight, fuel surcharge, handling, etc. |
| Transit reference | Vessel / voyage | Flight number |
Transport mode detection
RegoIQ detects the transport mode from document content — the presence of a bill of lading indicates ocean, an air waybill indicates air. If the mode can't be determined automatically, the job is flagged for manual selection on the review dashboard
